Spring Lake, NJ is one of the most beautiful beach towns along the “Jersey Shore”. Established in the early 1900’s as a resort destination for high society members of New York and Philadelphia, the homes in this area still maintain the grand Victorian style. Our clients of almost 15 years and 2 houses, recently purchased one of these grand summer homes and brought us along to design their summer retreat. They wanted the design to be carefree and low maintenance so that our clients could enjoy the house without worrying about guests walking in with sandy feet and sitting on furniture in wet bathing suits.

Not only would the design have to with stand the wear and tear of the guests but also the unforgiving nature of the salty ocean air. What we were most mindful of, was the gorgeous bones of this gracious turn of the century home.

This is a project that we like to think of as less is more. We wanted to keep the budget low given that it is a second home and the fact that over time and with a lot of use, some furnishings and finishes will have to be replaced.

In thinking about the design of this home, we stayed true to the history of the house and its beach community location. The living room was painted in a sea foam blue which we carried through into the dining room with the back drop of the built-in corner cabinets. For an added beach aesthetic, we curated these cabinets with a collection of coral and shells from some of our favorite beach locale home design stores.

Without missing a summer, we were able to redesign and renovate the family room, living room and dining room of this home.

We stayed true to the history of the house & its beach community location.
