We had just purchased our property in Dorset, VT and mentioned to our real estate broker that if she had any clients who were buying homes or property in the area and were looking for a design team to send us the referral. Just a few months later, she put us in touch with a couple from Greenwich, CT who recently purchased 168 acres nearby.
As we walked this incredible piece of land that included its own mountain, we learned about our client’s vision to create a retreat for themselves and a place to entertain friends and family. Taking the time to learn about what the client wanted to use the home for and the way they would live here helped us design a place that would uniquely fit their lifestyle and still maintain a sense of place – in the rolling hills of Vermont.
The overall aesthetic for the project was to initially create an American Shaker Farmhouse with high quality materials and finishes. Our goal was to utilize local craftspeople and materials. Special finishes in the house include reclaimed barn boards on the ceilings in the kitchen, dining area and garden room as well as Danby marble throughout from Danby, VT.
TULLY&KLAS specialize in helping clients navigate the entire design process including interiors, technology, construction and lighting. The hardest part of any project is getting a project finished. This is where we excel. We have a dedicated team we bring in to get each project through the last steps.
On this job, we were a month away from move in and the kitchen was not ready! There were a lot of special decorative finishes in this space like matching the cabinets to the AGA oven. We brought in our final stage crew who worked 24/7 for the last 4 weeks to get the kitchen and the house ready for our promised move-in date. Ray stayed on property managing the crews and Susan traveled around the region curating art, antiques and accessories for the home.
On move-in day, not only were there towels and soap in the bathrooms but we had the refrigerator stocked and when the clients arrived, they were greeted with a catered champagne lunch.
Design a place that would uniquely fit their lifestyle & still maintain a sense of place.
